BRUSSELS, 1st February, 2018 (WAM) -- The UAE, as a major donor to the Palestinian Authority and people, highlighted its commitment to continue to help improve the economic and social conditions of the Palestinian people.

This took place during the extraordinary ministerial session of the 28-member International Donor Group for Palestine, which was hosted by the European Union and headed by Norway in Brussels, Belgium, yesterday.

The meeting was attended by Zaki Nusseibeh, Minister of State, and the ministers of foreign affairs of Morocco, Egypt and Jordan, along with the ambassadors of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.

The session discussed the Palestinian cause and the measures to support the efforts to reach a negotiated outcome, based on the two-state solution.

The UAE said the session aims to strengthen peace-oriented efforts in a troubled region, by encouraging serious negotiations on the two-state solution and on establishing an independent Palestinian state, based on the 1967 borders, with East Jerusalem as its capital.

The UAE affirmed entire support for the statement of the EU High Representative to the meeting that demanded that all possible efforts must be made to ensure full success for peace negotiations, by garnering international consensus on establishing two States living together in peace and security, and by calling on all parties concerned to refrain from undermining efforts made on this score.

The UAE also noted its total support for the peace efforts sponsored by Egypt to ensure the Palestinian Authority's administrative control over the Gaza Strip, adding that Egypt's role is a key condition to easing the economic conditions of Palestinians living in the Gaza Strip, as well as to establishing a secure and stable Palestinian state.

The UAE underlined full readiness to engage with members of the group, as called for by its head, Ine Soreide, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Norway, in order to ensure the group’s upcoming meeting, set for March 2018, will be beneficial, purposeful and produce tangible results.
