BEIRUT, Lebanon, 16th July, 2015 (WAM) --- The UAE's aid for the underprivileged in Lebanon during the Holy Month of Ramadan has benefited more than 135,000 people across the country, said the UAE Ambassador to Lebanon, Hamad Saeed Al Shamsi.

Funded by the Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan Foundation for Charitable and Humanitarian Work, the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation, the Emirates Red Crescent and other donors, the UAE's Ramadan humanitarian effort benefited Lebanese, Syrian and Palestinian families.

The aid included food baskets and mass iftar banquets.

The delivery of the UAE aid was co-ordinated with the Lebanese government and international agencies operating in Lebanon.

Al Shamsi thanked the government for facilitating the delivery of the UAE aid to the needy across the country.

More than 1,000 families in three Lebanese cities - Tripoli, Baalbek and Tyre - received Zakat al-Fitr, a mandatory charity given to the poor at the end of Holy Fasting Month of Ramadan, from the UAE Embassy in Beirut.
